680 people Arrested in Mississippi by ISIS

ICE Conducts Largest Raid in U.S. History

ICE recently conducted the largest raid in U.S. history, arresting an estimated 680 people accused of working in the U.S. illegally. The raid was carried out at several food-processing plants in Mississippi on August 7th and was a coordinated effort by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

Over 600 ICE agents surrounded the area to prevent workers from escaping. One of the plants involved in the raid is owned by Koch Foods Inc., one of the biggest poultry processors in the country. A plant owned by Peco Foods Inc. was also raided by ICE.

Workers who were detained during the raid were sent on buses to the Mississippi National Guard hangar. Detainees were interviewed by ICE agents who inquired about their immigration status and deportation orders. The raid is the largest of its kind since the George W. Bush administration arrested 400 workers at a facility in Iowa in 2008.

These raids are part of the Trump Administration’s ongoing efforts to separate immigrant families and stir up fear in their communities. At a time when immigrants are feeling especially vulnerable after the mass shooting in El Paso, we believe it is distasteful to have armed agents suddenly descend on a workplace to roundup and target Latino workers.
