Do We Charge for B Visa Applications and Invitation Letters?

Do We Charge for B Visa Applications and Invitation Letters?

We often receive questions from clients and community members about whether we charge for B Visa Applications or for drafting invitation letters to support friends and family hoping to visit the United States. Although it’s within our right to charge, we feel it’s better to offer honest guidance without a fee.

What is a B Visa?

B visas are temporary, non-immigrant visas that allow someone to visit the U.S. for tourism, business, or to visit family and friends. Many individuals applying for a B visa hope to strengthen their application with an invitation letter from someone already living in the United States, especially a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.

While invitation letters can be helpful to show the applicant’s plans while in the U.S., they are not a requirement for a B visa, nor are they a guarantee that the visa will be approved.

Why Don’t We Charge for B Visa Applications?

At Davis & Associates, we understand that working with a Texas immigration attorney often adds value in many types of immigration cases. However, in our experience, hiring an attorney to assist with a B Visa Application does not significantly improve the applicant’s chances of approval. As Garry Davis explains, “The client always expects that because they paid a lawyer to do it, the person will get the visa — that using us improves chances for a positive outcome. But there is nothing about using a lawyer that actually improves chances of success with a B visa application in my experience.”

Decisions on B visa applications are based almost entirely on the applicant’s personal situation — not on whether an attorney helped prepare the paperwork or whether they provided a professionally drafted invitation letter. United States consular officers focus on factors like:

  • Ties to the applicant’s home country (family, employment, assets).
  • Financial ability to cover the trip and return home.
  • The applicant’s travel history.
  • The purpose and length of the visit.

Because legal representation does not increase the likelihood of approval, we believe it’s more transparent and ethical to offer honest guidance without a charge for B Visa Applications and invitation letters.
