HOW TO APPLY FOR CITIZENSHIP

In order to apply for U.S. citizenship, first you must determine if you meet the qualifications set up by the Immigration and Nationality Act.  If you determine that you meet the qualifications, and you also meet all the requirements of the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, you may move forward with your application.  The most important asset during the citizenship application process is your Texas immigration lawyer. Davis & Associates have a vast knowledge of citizenship law, and can guide you through every step of the process in ensure that the application is filed properly the first time to avoid any delay or rejection.

In order to apply for citizenship, you must meet one of these qualifiers.  

  • You have been a permanent resident in the U.S. for at least 5 years
  • You are the spouse of a U.S. citizen and have been a permanent resident for at least 3 years
  • You have qualifying service in the U.S. military
  • You are a child of a U.S. citizen, were born outside of the U.S., and currently reside outside of the U.S.

If you meet one of these criteria, next you should determine if you meet the requirements to become a naturalized citizen.

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must be a lawful permanent residence
  • You must be a resident and have been physically present in the U.S. for 30 months of the last 5 years
  • You must have lived at your current residence for the last 3 months
  • You must have good moral character
  • You must read, write and speak basic English
  • You must support the principles and ideals of the U.S. Constitution
  • You must have a basic understanding of U.S. history and civics
